Originally designed to be the capital of Brazil, Salvador maintained that
status from 1549 to 1763. Today, Salvador is the capital for hospitality
and tourism.  Although it is the third largest city in Brazil, Salvador
manages to maintain a small town feel that appeals to tourists all
around the world.  Its 34 kilometers of beaches accentuate its natural
beauty, and the colonial architecture of Pelourinho, along with the
great cultural diversity and wealth of traditional folklore, drive over 2
million tourists to this city every year.
